Produced for honing and maintaining the edges on both the inside and outside of gouges and V-tools, the Flexcut SlipStrop consists of a complex moulding with two areas of leather and a bar of a specially developed honing compound. The compound is available separately for those wishing to use it on their existing strop. In use, the particular part of the moulding most suited to the chosen tool is rubbed crayon-like with compound and the tool stropped. A mirror finish is achieved quickly, and the resulting razor edge can be maintained by repeating the process many times before re-sharpening is required. Use for gouges and V-tools both inside and outside.

SlipStrop jig will ensure perfectly polished edge. The edge will be not only sharper but will also last longer. We recommend using original FlexCut PW-11 honing compound with the product (a stick comes with the set). More compound can be purchased separately.

When to use the SlipStrop?
Regular maintenance
Don’t be afraid to use the SlipStrop even during carving. The more often you have perfect edge, the longer will your tools last and you will avoid having to use sharpening stones too often.
Honing and polishing after sharpening on stone
We recommend using for final honing after sharpening on fine stone or leather wheel.

How to use FlexCut polishing compound?
Consistence of compound allows for easy application, just like drawing with a crayon. In some cases you can scrape the compound to fine dust and pour it over desired location. Compound has a yellow color for easy indication of wear. As soon as you see the compound turning black during polishing, you need to apply a fresh layer.

Sharpening of outer edge
For sharpening of outer edge, use the flat leather surface. For profiled edges you can use the gutter next to it. Always pull the tool in direction of edge, otherwise you may cut into the jig. Correct use is displayed in picture 1.

Sharpening of inner edge
When sharpening inner edge, please select correct profile as is shown in picture 2. In case the blade profile is larger than profile on jig, switch between sharpened sides in such way, that you polish entire beveled edge. Tool should be tilted slightly up, like shown in picture 3. Number of strokes depends on steel hardness of tool.
