Their original kitchen and dining accessories with magnets attracted the attention of not only visitors to the prestigious hall number 4 at the Ambiente 2020 trade fair in Frankfurt. The story of Clap Design begins with the meeting of the founders Lukáš Pejchala and Václav Čajánek. Together, they let themselves invent the coffee service and looked for a funny way to hold the spoon. Why put a magnet there? After researching the Internet, he realized he had discovered a gap in the market and plunged into the world of magnets and wood. That coffee service was born, then knife holders, cutting boards and salt and pepper grinders, which hold together thanks to magnets. It was the clicking sound that the grinders make when they are brought together that inspired the name of the brand. We need porcelain Lukáš and Václav are not afraid of it, and in search of new ideas for porcelain, they went straight to one of the most famous designers in the Czech Republic with their products. This is professor and leading Czech designer Jiří Pelcl. "I have been working with the guys from Clap Design for three years. They stopped by my studio and wanted to discuss the use of my porcelain in their collection. It made sense to me - porcelain made in a Czech porcelain factory, combined with an original idea and design," Jiří Pelcl describes the beginnings of the collaboration. Where did the tree from which you have the saucer grow? Václav can tell you this with a bit of exaggeration. Wood is the material that connects all Clap Design design pieces. Václav's family carpentry shop in Hukvaldy is known throughout the area. Since 1930, they have been making windows, doors and even staircases for neighbors from all over the region. And today, their products make you happy, for example, with breakfast or afternoon coffee. "Most of our products are made of oak. This is a traditional interior wood. It is of good quality, hard, durable and nicely aged. We could have ordered wood for better money from Russia, for example, but we want local wood as a matter of principle. We have our own contractor, with whom I select specific trees to cut down for us. We are in contact with a given piece of wood from the moment I am still standing in the forest, through processing to the egg stand," says Václav. We don't stop at magnets and wood Lukáš and Václav want to move their approach to design and dining to other materials as well. Next is metal or concrete. They want to make people happy in their kitchens and dining rooms and disrupt the daily routine. "Václav and I both come from a gastronomy background. We enjoy the world of dining and kitchen accessories. That, together with originality and the desire for innovation, is the soul of Clap Design," adds Lukáš.
